Justin Sante is a programmer developing an ambitious project: a web application that allows even complete beginners to make music of beauty and complexity. His new approach to music composition needed a friendly and eye-catching informational site to get the message out and spread word of MusicDNA.
The site I designed for Justin aims, first and foremost, to be friendly and simple, emphasizing the accessibility and ease-of-use of his application. The visual design combines musical and genetic imagery. Starting with a stock photo of sequenced DNA, I built up layers of varying transparency and saturation to build a background pattern that suggests both genes and levels readouts on musical equipment. Estilo, the typeface I used for the mark, nicely combines organic and technical forms when set in all-caps.
